Laparoscopic surgery, open surgery से बहुत अलग होती हैं। Open surgery में आम तौर पर पेट के नीचे एक १० cm का छेड़ बनाया जाता है और उससे operation किया जाता है। लेकिन laparoscopic surgery में नाभि के ठीक नीचे एक १ cm का छेद बनाया जाता है और उसमें एक laparoscope डाल कर surgery की जाती है। Laparoscope का जो भाग शरीर में जाता है उसपे एक camera लगा होता है जिससे सब अच्छी दिख जाता है और operation में कोई भी बाधा नहीं आती।

Laparoscopic surgery यह एक नई तकनीक है जिसकी वजह से बहुत लोगों को उसके उपयोग के बारें में पता नहीं है। नए ज़माने के डॉक्टरों में यह तकनीक प्रचलित है क्यूंकि उन्हें इसकी training दी जाती है । पुराने डॉक्टर इस प्रकार की surgery के लिए बहार से डॉक्टर लाना पसंद करते हैं क्यूंकि उन्हें इस surgery की training नहीं होती। इस सब के होते हुए भी भारत में यह तकनीक बहुत प्रचलित है।

इस सर्जरी का सबसे बड़ा फायदा यह है की इसमें बहुत कम दर्द होता है। दूसरा एक बड़ा फायदा यह है की यह surgery करने के बाद recovery का समय बहुत कम होता है। यह surgery होने के बाद लोग जल्द ही काम पर लौट सकते है। अगर किसी अच्छे laparoscopic surgeon के पास की जाये तो ४८ घंटे में आप काम पर लौट सकते हैं।
