Srivathsan is a young Carnatic star who is known for his creative presentations that are highly aesthetic while also strongly rooted in classicism. Over the years, he has built a strong reputation for being a vibrant concert performer with his precise and flowing renditions.

Srivathsan’s family hails from the musically famous town of Tiruvaiyaru, where Saint Tyagraja spent much of his life. He was introduced to music at the age of 4. After having trained initially under Shri AVK Rajasimhan, he has since been training under the tutelage of Shri AS Murali, a famous vidwan and guru and a disciple of Padma Bhushan Sri PS Naryanaswamy, continuing in the tradition and lineage of the Sangita Pitamaha Semmangudi Srinivasaier. He was one of the early recipients of the Cultural Talent Search (CCRT) Scholarship for Music from The Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India

Srivathsan is a graded artiste of the All India Radio, Chennai and is a regular performer in the sabhas in and around Chennai and elsewhere. He was recently awarded the ‘Sangeetha Mudra’ award by Mudhra Sabha, Chennai and performed in the December season prime slot, along with stalwart accompanists.

He is also the winner of the coveted Best Individual performer award from The Music Academy, Madras in their HCL Concert Series. He has also won the best vocalist award from VDS Arts Academy, the best Ragam Tanam Pallavi award from RK Srikantan Trust, Bangalore and the Yuva Sri Kala Barathy award from Madurai Yuva Kendra. He has also been a part of the grand finale of the Times Tyagaraja Awards, the Saregama MS Subbulakshmi Awards and Reliance Ilayaragam.

He has been blessed with the Asthana Vidwan honours and the award Sangeetha Vidya Bala Baskhara by the Ahobila Mutt. He has also sung in most of the popular Sabhas in India, including Krishna Gana Sabha, Narada Gana Sabha, Brahma Gana Sabha, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, The Music Academy, Shanmukhananda (Mumbai), Kalasagaram (Hyderabad), RK Srikantan Trust (Bengaluru).

Aside from his musical pursuits, Srivathsan is an engineering graduate from the National Institute of Technology Trichy and is also a setter of cryptic crosswords for the national daily The Hindu. He has conducted several workshops on the art of cryptic crosswords and has presented documentaries on the similarities between wordplay as seen in Carnatic Music and Cryptic Crosswords.
