Audi has updated its flagship A8 sedan for the 2024 model year, adding fresher styling, more technology features, and a revised plug-in hybrid powertrain to the long-wheelbase A8 L model. We recently had the chance to spend some time with the new 2024 Audi A8 L 60 TFSI e quattro to see if this large luxury hybrid still impresses.
Elegant Enhancements
The visual updates to the 2024 A8 are subtle but effectively sharpen the design. The front end gains a wider singleframe grille with distinct chrome angles, complemented by redesigned headlights and side air intakes. At the rear, segmented OLED taillights join a continuous light strip and restyled bumper diffuser. Overall, the look is slightly more modern and authoritative.
Inside, the spacious cabin receives tech upgrades like updated displays and touch controls. But the real treat is the long-wheelbase L model's spacious rear quarters. An optional relaxation seat package adds extravagant features like massage functions, footrests, and even a cooler with bar compartment for the ultimate in back seat indulgence.
Efficient AND Powerful
The A8 L 60 TFSI e quattro pairs a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine with an electric motor and 14.4 kWh battery pack for a combined 462 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque. That's enough thrust for a 0-60 mph time of 4.9 seconds, which is remarkably quick for such a large sedan.
More impressively, the A8 can travel up to an estimated 33 miles on electric power alone. The hybrid system prioritizes electric driving at lower speeds for maximum efficiency in city environments. But when you need to get up and go, the gasoline engine provides smooth and strong acceleration.
While not quite as supple as the range-topping S8's adaptive air suspension, the A8 L's standard air suspension still delivers an exceptionally plush and serene ride quality. Minimal wind and road noise make this a true luxury touring sedan.
Pricey But Premium
The 2024 Audi A8 L 60 TFSI e quattro doesn't come cheap, with a starting price of $108,950. And as is typical of any flagship luxury model, checking off options like the relaxation seat package and fancy trim materials can easily push the bottom line well into the six-figure range.
But for those seeking a large luxury sedan that blends cutting-edge efficiency with supreme comfort and performance, the A8 L 60 TFSI e makes a compelling case. With its tasteful enhancements for 2024, Audi's flagship remains a premium and prestigious pick among full-size luxury hybrids.
