Transforming Paddy to Rice: A Step-by-Step Process in a modern rice mill located in Rajapalayam, Tamilnadu
Initial Stocking and Cleaning:
Paddy Stocking: 250 bags of paddy, each weighing 70 kg (totaling approximately 17 tons), are stored in sacks.

Primary Cleaning: The process begins with removing large dust particles, grass, stones, and mud from the paddy.
Secondary Cleaning and Soaking:
Transfer to Soaking Tank: Cleaned paddy is transferred to a soaking tank filled with water.
Soaking: The paddy soaks for 8 hours. During this time, husks and other debris rise to the top layer of the tank and are removed manually.
By-Product Management:
Husk and Debris: The removed husks and particles are dried and sent to companies producing cattle feed, which helps reduce production costs and affects the price of rice.
Streaming and Drying:
Streaming: After soaking, the paddy is conveyed to the steaming process, which takes approximately 4 hours.
Drying: The steamed paddy is then dried for about 24 hours.
Final Grinding and Polishing:
Processing: The dried paddy undergoes final grinding and polishing through 7 to 8 stages, including grading, whitening and husk removal, based on the rice variety and requirements.
Packaging and Distribution:
Packaging: The final rice product is packed into packaging covers securely.
Distribution: Packaged rice is then distributed to shops and retailers.
