🇬🇷 CORINTH Greece, Day trip from Athens, Tips for Tourists

Описание к видео 🇬🇷 CORINTH Greece, Day trip from Athens, Tips for Tourists

Corinth is a Town, Ancient Fortress, Roman Ruin and Canal. It dates back 3000 years and because of its location and Geography in Greece was a critical location throughout Ancient and Modern Greek History.

Corinth is not really one place as a result. Starting at The Acrocorinth, the ancient Fortress rising 500m above the plain we then move to Ancient Corinth, the Hellenistic and then Roman city, before visiting Modern Corinth and finally the Modern Corinth Canal and Ancient Diolkos Roadway.

This was the meeting place for the city states of Thebes, Athens, Sparta and Argos, before being taken by the Romans, destroyed by earthquakes and rebuilt by the Venetians and Ottomans as a Byzantine fortress to control the gateway to the Peloponnese.

Perhaps Corinth is most famous however because Saint Paul the Apostle of Jesus lived here in AD59/60 and wrote his famous 'Letters to the Corinthians' which are detailed in the Bible. He was put on Trial in Corinth, but left and moved north shortly after.

Few places encapsulate Ancient Greece, and Modern Greece in the same way as Corinth, with its Ancient City of Corinth, and World famous Corinth Canal.

An ideal Day trip from Athens, with many coach trips, or if you wish to drive only 1 hour from the centre of Athens, and the entry point to the ancient Peloponnese, land of Mythology.
