In the fall of 2021, I had the pleasure of experiencing the wonders of one of the biggest conventions in the world, Expo 2020 in Dubai! Join me as I try Indian food and tour Expo 2020 Dubai and take you along for the ride!

Expo 2020 Dubai is the largest gathering in the world that celebrates art, culture, cuisine, entertainment, and technology. It runs through March 31, 2022!

My day began with a ride to the expo with my friends at Blacklane, a luxury chauffeur service that started in Berlin. They’re available in several cities around the world, including Dubai. They can either drop you off at your destination or wait for you!

I couldn’t wait to explore the expo. Along the way, we passed Dubai Marina on our way through the city. My driver was super friendly!

Inside the massive expo space, I walked to the Opportunity District and finally made it to Kutir, a modern and elegant Pan Indian restaurant by Rohit Ghai, a Michelin star chef! It’s located on the first floor of the Vietnam Pavilion.

First, I had one of their unique signature cocktails. They smoked it under a glass dome with cinnamon, oranges, and other spices. It almost smelled like incense!

In the kitchen, I watched them make lamb shank, chicken biryani, naan, chicken tikka, parottas, sweet basil paste with tandoori prawns, and malpua with rabri and berries.

First was the soft and juicy softshell crab. It’s so soft, you can eat the whole thing! It also came with chickpeas and curry leaves!

The prawns were massive and meaty, and the puree with it was out of this world! The chicken tikka masala had a perfect spice level. I loved the way the ginger and Kashmiri chilies enhanced the flavor. Adding the naan made it perfect!

The chicken dum biryani was infused with so much flavor. It came with with dhungaar raita but was moist on its own. The onions and the marinade on the chicken were excellent!

The dhungaar raita added a creaminess and smokiness and was the best raita I’ve ever had! Adding the chicken tikka masala gravy was unreal!

The lamb shank was massive, slow-cooked, and fall-apart tender. The gravy was rich, and the bone contained some delicious marrow! It also came with purple potatoes and was phenomenal!

Finally were the desserts: the malpua rabri and Trio of Kulfi. The trio contained rose, saffron, and pistachio kulfi. I loved the rose! I also loved the flaky, pancake-like malpua rabri. After finishing with some masala chai, I headed back out!

Chef Garcia and I saw a parade and headed toward the main dome in the center of the expo to Jubilee, a bar and restaurant with a jungle-like feel!

The views of the Mobility and Opportunity areas were beautiful! I got a smoky Shanghai cocktail, which contained egg yolk, whiskey, and lemon. Then, we went to explore the pavilions!

In the India pavilion, there were planets overhead and lots of greenery, which made it look like a jungle. Upstairs were huge video screens of cities, fireworks displays, candles, Bollywood dancing, and more!

I also saw displays about the economic and transportation aspects of India, as well as displays showing Jaipur, Amritsar, Varanasi, and more! Then, I headed to Spain and then Romania, where they were playing music. I tried some of their silver and gold water, which comes from a spring in a mine.

Next was Venezuela, where I saw displays about Simon Bolivar, who is known as El Liberador, and then Hungary, which had a huge line. There was another Christmas parade and some street food trucks.

The Russian pavilion was huge and colorful. On the third floor were cool displays of a huge brain and spinal column, and fun screens and light shows! Then, I headed to a store to buy some souvenirs to end my experience!
