Embark on a captivating cab ride from Čakovec in Croatia to Lendava in Slovenia, traversing the historic Čakovec–Mursko Središće railway (L101) and the state border–Lendava railway. This journey covers approximately 23 kilometers through picturesque landscapes and offers a glimpse into the rich history of cross-border rail connections in this region.

The Čakovec–Mursko Središće railway, spanning 17 kilometers, connects the city of Čakovec to Mursko Središće near the Slovenian border. Established in 1889 as part of the Zalaegerszeg–Čakovec railway, this line has been a vital link between Croatia and Hungary. The route is non-electrified and single-tracked, reflecting its historical origins.

Crossing into Slovenia, the journey continues along the state border–Lendava railway, a 5 kilometer extension leading to the town of Lendava. Also constructed in 1889, this segment was originally part of the same Zalaegerszeg–Čakovec railway. However, following World War II in 1945, the section between Lendava and Rédics was dismantled, altering the original route.

Passenger services between Mursko Središće and Lendava were discontinued after the breakup of Yugoslavia but were reinstated on December 14, 2014. However, services were suspended again in March 2020 due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. As of December 2023, limited passenger services have resumed, with two daily trains operating on weekdays and one on Saturdays.

This cab ride offers a unique opportunity to experience a historic railway corridor that has connected communities across borders for over a century. Traveling through the scenic landscapes of the Mura River region, viewers can appreciate the enduring significance of this cross-border railway link between Croatia and Slovenia.
