What is the best way to worship Allah and balance our lives? Prophet Dawood was known to be the best worshipper of Allah as Prophet Muhammad (salla Allahu alayhe wa sallam) said. Here are the reference of much of what was said during this session.

Allah says about the stories of the Prophets
These ˹prophets˺ were ˹rightly˺ guided by Allah, so follow their guidance.

He worked with his own hands:

Narrated Al-Miqdam: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Nobody has ever eaten a better meal than that which one has earned by working with one's own hands. The Prophet (ﷺ) of Allah, David used to eat from the earnings of his manual labor." [Al-Bukhari]

His Occupation:

Indeed, We granted David a ˹great˺ privilege from Us, ˹commanding:˺ “O mountains! Echo his hymns! And the birds as well.” We made iron moldable for him, 34:10
instructing: “Make full-length armor, ˹perfectly˺ balancing the links. And work righteousness ˹O family of David!˺. Indeed, I am All-Seeing of what you do.” 34:11

The Fasting and Prayers of Prophet Dawood:

Prophet Muhammad (salla Allahu alayhe wa sallam) said: "The most beloved fasting to Allah was the fasting of (the Prophet) Dawood/David who used to fast one day and break his fast one day. And the most beloved prayer to Allah was the prayer of David who used to sleep for (the first) half of the night and pray for 1/3 of it and (again) sleep for a sixth of it." [Al-Bukhari]

The Blessing of Fasting and Quran Reading:

‘Abdallah b. ‘Amr reported God’s messenger as saying, “Fasting and the Qur’an intercede for a man. Fasting says, ‘O my Lord, I have kept him away from his food and his passions by day, so accept my intercession for him.’ The Qur’an says, ‘I have kept him away from sleep by night, so accept my intercession for him.’ Then their intercession is accepted." [Al-Bayhaqi (authentic by Al-Albani)]

The Witr Prayer:

He (ﷺ) said, "Allah is Witr (single, odd) and loves what is Witr. So perform Witr prayer. O followers of Qur'an, observe Witr (prayer)." [Ahmad]

Your Voice and The Quran:

"Beautify the Qur'an with your voices." [Abu Dawud]

'Whoever does not recite Qur'an in a nice voice is not from us,' [Al-Bukhari]
(i.e. not on the sunnah)

Remembrance and athkar:

Be patient ˹O Prophet˺ with what they say. And remember Our servant, David, the man of strength. Indeed, he ˹constantly˺ turned ˹to Allah˺.

38:18 - We truly subjected the mountains to hymn ˹Our praises˺ along with him in the evening and after sunrise.

38:19 - And ˹We subjected˺ the birds, flocking together. All turned to him ˹echoing his hymns˺.

What did Allah say right after this verse?

We strengthened his kingship and gave him wisdom and sound judgment.

The Barakah in the life of Prophet Dawud:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "The reciting of the Zabur (i.e. Psalms) was made easy for David. He used to order that his riding animals be saddled, and would finish reciting the Zabur before they were saddled. And he would never eat except from the earnings of his manual work." [Al-Bukhari]

The story of the people who jumped into Prophet Dawud’s place:

۞ وَهَلْ أَتَىٰكَ نَبَؤُا۟ ٱلْخَصْمِ إِذْ تَسَوَّرُوا۟ ٱلْمِحْرَابَ
Has the story of the two plaintiffs, who scaled the ˹wall of David’s˺ sanctuary, reached you ˹O Prophet˺? 38:21

When they came into David’s presence, he was startled by them. They said, “Have no fear. ˹We are merely˺ two in a dispute: one of us has wronged the other. So judge between us with truth—do not go beyond ˹it˺—and guide us to the right way. 38:22

This is my brother. He has ninety-nine sheep while I have ˹only˺ one. ˹Still˺ he asked me to give it up to him, overwhelming me with ˹his˺ argument.” 38:23

David ˹eventually˺ ruled, “He has definitely wronged you in demanding ˹to add˺ your sheep to his. And certainly many partners wrong each other, except those who believe and do good—but how few are they!” Then David realized that We had tested him so he asked for his Lord’s forgiveness, fell down in prostration, and turned ˹to Him in repentance˺. 38:24

So We forgave that for him. And he will indeed have ˹a status of˺ closeness to Us and an honorable destination! 38:25

Allah gifted Prophet Dawood with Prophet Suleiman/Solomon:

38:30 And We blessed David with Solomon—what an excellent servant ˹he was˺! Indeed, he ˹constantly˺ turned ˹to Allah˺.
