Описание к видео Racism in India: The Heartbreaking Story of a Tripura Student in Dehradun

Racism is not only a global issue — it is a painful reality within our own country. India, a land known for its unity, diversity, and cultural richness, still struggles with deep-rooted stereotypes and discriminatory behavior. The tragic death of 24-year-old Anjel Chakma, a bright MBA student from Tripura studying in Dehradun, has once again exposed the harsh truth that many people quietly endure every day.

In this video, I have narrated the heartbreaking story of Anjel, a young man who came to Dehradun with dreams, ambition, and hope for a better future. Instead of acceptance, he faced mockery. Instead of respect, he received humiliation. Some individuals repeatedly called him derogatory names like “chinky,” “Nepali,” “momos,” and other offensive slurs simply because of his facial features. These actions were not jokes — they were racism, clear and cruel.

Despite the harassment, Anjel chose to stand up for himself. He refused to let discrimination break his identity. As per the reports, when he confronted the group responsible, the situation turned violent. He was outnumbered by four men who brutally attacked him. After being admitted to the ICU for 17 days, Anjel lost his life. His last powerful words echoed the pain of countless people across the country:
“I am not Chinese, I am an Indian… just like you.”

This line reflects both strength and heartbreak. It shows the reality of how people from the Northeast face racism in their own country — a country they love, represent, and proudly call home.

Racism is not about color or region; it is about mindset. It creates wounds that are deeper than physical injuries. It destroys confidence, dignity, and humanity. In a nation that celebrates “Unity in Diversity,” incidents like this remind us how far we still need to go as a society.

In this video, I have spoken about how racism begins with small comments, jokes, stereotypes, and labels. These seemingly “casual” words have the power to break someone’s identity. I have also discussed the importance of educating people, building awareness, and teaching our youth to respect every Indian, no matter their culture, language, or appearance.

Anjel’s story must not be forgotten. It is a lesson for all of us — to recognize racism, to call it out, and to ensure that such hatred has no place in our country. Each one of us has a responsibility to create a society where every person feels safe, valued, and respected.

Let us stand together against racism. Let us raise our voices for justice. And let us ensure that our diversity becomes our strength, not our weakness.
