What is a sewer camera inspection for? This is a frequently asked question when clients call me for a home inspection, Many clients assume a sewer scope inspection is part of the home inspection. This video was intended to explain the sewer camera inspection or sewer lateral inspection process only, however i discovered root intrusion in this sewer lateral underground pipe so i filmed everything we encountered.

When you schedule a sewer camera inspection we try to locate an access to the underground line first. Once we locate this access in the soil or on the exterior wall we can begin the inspection. The inspection is intended to view the inside of the underground pipe between the home and where it connects to the city under your street or alley behind your home.

Client Question: Will we guarantee that we will be able to view and record the entire pipe between home and street or alley?
Our Answer: Absolutely NOT, We will guarantee that we will show up as scheduled and try our best with the options we have to inspect your sewer line. Our camera inspection may observe roots in the pipe that have blocked the pipe which means the pipe beyond the roots cannot be viewed, or maybe we observed a back up that could not be passed. There are too many variables that can limit the sewer camera inspection.

The purpose of the sewer camera inspection to to tell you the condition of the pipe and that is all. If the pipe is broken, blocked, shifted, holding water or has an obsolete pipe still in service such as orange-burg then we will recommend further evaluation by a licensed plumber to clear and or fix the sewer lateral pipe.
