ସ୍ଥାନୀୟ ଲୋକ କହିବା ଅନୁସାରେ ଜଣେ ଧୋବା ଘଞ୍ଜ ଜଙ୍ଗଲ ଭିତରକୁ କାଠ ହାଣିବା ଯାଇଥିବା ବେଳେ ଜଙ୍ଗଲରେ ଥିବା କେନ୍ଦୁ ଗଛକୁ ହାଣିବା ପାଇଁ କୁରାଢ଼ୀ ଚୋଟ ପକାଇଥିଲା l ଗଛର ହଣା ଯାଇଥିବା ସ୍ଥାନରୁ ରକ୍ତ ଝରିବା ଆରମ୍ବ ଦେଖି ସେ ଆଚର୍ଯ୍ୟା ହୋଇ ଯାଇଥିଲା l ଘଟଣା ସକ୍ରାନ୍ତରେ ସ୍ଥାନୀୟ ଅଞ୍ଚଳବାସିଙ୍କୁ ଜଣାଇଥିଲେ ବୁଦ୍ଧା ଜଣଙ୍କ l ହଠାତ ଘଟଣାକୁ ବିଶ୍ୱାସ ନ କରିପାରିଲେ ମଧ୍ୟ ନିଜ ଆଖିରେ ନ ଦେଖିଲେ ପରେ ଘଟଣାର ସତ୍ୟାସତ ଜାଣିପାରିଲେ l ପରବତୀ ସମୟରେ ରଜକର  ମୁତୃ ହୋଇଥିଲା l ଏହି ଅଲୌକିକ ଘଟଣାକୁ ଦେଖି ଏହା ଦେବୀଙ୍କ ମହିମା ବୋଲି ବିଚାର କରି ପୂଜାପାଠ ମହାଯଂଜ୍ଞ କରିଥିଲେ ଅଞ୍ଚଳବାସି l ସେହିଦିନଠାରୁ ଏହି ଅଞ୍ଚଳରେ ମାଙ୍କ ମହିମା ପ୍ରଚାର ହେବାସହ ଅଂଚଳବାସୀଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ଇଷ୍ଟଦେବୀ ପାଲିଟି ଗଲେ ମା ବୁଢାକେନ୍ଦୁ l

ଆଜି ବି ଏହି ଶକ୍ତିପୀଠ ରେ ସେହି କୁରାଢ଼ୀ ଅଛି ଯେଉଥିରେ କେନ୍ଦୁ ଗଛକୁ ଚୋଟ ମାରିଥିଲା ରଜକ (ଧୋବା ) l

ବିଶେଷ କରି କାର୍ତିକ ପୁର୍ଣିମା ଓ ଚ୍ୟେତ୍ର ମାସରେ ଏଠାରେ ହଜାର ହଜାର ଭକ୍ତଙ୍କ ସମାଗମ ହୁଏ l

According to locals, a laundryman was cutting wood into the forest when he was hit by an ax to cut down a Kendu tree in the forest. When he did not see it with his own eyes, he realized the truth of the incident. Later, Rajkar died. Seeing this miraculous event, he worshiped the people of the area, believing it to be the glory of the goddess.

Even today, the Shakti Peetha has an ax that injured the Kendu tree.

Thousands of devotees congregate here, especially during the Kartik Purnima and Chetra months
