Serviços Aéreos Cruzeiro do Sul Airlines Flight 212, a Boeing 727-C3, was a scheduled flight from Belo Horizonte to Rio de Janeiro, on May 1st, 1988, the 727 crashed onto a forest site while descending to Rio de Janeiro, killing all 105 people on board

Flight 212 carried 99 passengers on people and there were 6 crew members on board. 48 Y/O Leonardo Rodrigues de Assunção (1940-1988) he had 13,000 hours logged into the 727-C3. 37 Y/O Romeu Cavalcanti Watanabe (1951-1988) he had over 5,000 hours on the 727-C3. 27 Y/O Flight Engineer Samuel Lópes Ferreira (1961-1988) he had over 1,000 hours on the 727-C3, making him the most least experienced pilot in this crash.There were 3 flight attendants.


The investigation revealed that the Captain descended the plane thinking that they was close to the airport but instead crashed into a forest area, despite being the most experienced pilot inside the cockpit. Other investigators said that the pilot was half-awake, because of him being sleepy he thought that he was at short final at the Sao Paulo airport.

O voo 212 da Serviços Aéreos Cruzeiro do Sul, um Boeing 727-C3, era um voo regular de Belo Horizonte para o Rio de Janeiro. Em 1º de maio de 1988, o 727 caiu em uma área florestal enquanto descia para o Rio de Janeiro, matando todas as 105 pessoas a bordo.

O voo 212 transportava 99 passageiros e havia 6 tripulantes a bordo. Leonardo Rodrigues de Assunção (1940-1988), de 48 anos, tinha 13.000 horas registradas no 727-C3. Romeu Cavalcanti Watanabe (1951-1988), de 37 anos, tinha mais de 5.000 horas registradas no 727-C3. O engenheiro de voo Samuel Lópes Ferreira (1961-1988), de 27 anos, tinha mais de 1.000 horas de voo no 727-C3, tornando-o o piloto menos experiente neste acidente. Havia 3 comissários de bordo.

A investigação revelou que o comandante desceu do avião pensando que estava perto do aeroporto, mas caiu em uma área de floresta, apesar de ser o piloto mais experiente na cabine. Outros investigadores disseram que o piloto estava meio acordado e, por estar sonolento, pensou que estava em uma final curta no aeroporto de São Paulo.
