Returnal is a Playstation 5 exclusive developed by Housemarque Studios and was released on April 30th, 2021

After crash landing on the mysterious planet Atropos, Astra scout: Selene Vassos awakens in a mysterious forest overrun with hostile fauna and the ruins of an alien civilization known as the Sentients. Exploring the hostile forest, Selene soon discovers she is trapped in a time loop where her deaths loop her back to the crash of her ship. Each subsequent life she lives trying to escape by reaching a strange transmission unlocks more secrets about Atropos and Selene's own past.

Returnal is a triple A rogue-lite with heavy emphasis on story as well as combat. Gameplay follows all of Housemarque's signiature talents: fast paced and incredibly tight movement and shooting bullet hell combat. Each time Selene dies, she returns to the beginning of the game with the majority of her abilities reset and the map randomizes ensuring no two runs will be too similar. Returnal also employs a great deal of risk/reward mechanics. most pick ups and upgrades can potentially cause suit malfunctions adding a debuff as well as a buff. suit malfunctions can be fixed over time, however parasites add another risk/reward with permenant debuffs for the run as well as a significant buff to Selen's abilities. As is standard with Rogue-lites, Selene will die a lot in her attempts to escape. How many times will Selene meet her end as she learns more about Atropos and her own past before she finally breaks free of the time loop? Let's find out together!
