This “Boring” Field Has 1,000+ Years of History | Yorkshire Dales. On the surface it looks like nothing more than grass, rock, and a stony path heading across the open moors. Welcome to Langscar Gate. This short stretch of landscape hides medieval trade routes, ancient cave systems, parish boundary markers, disused lead mines, historic drystone walls, old Ordnance Survey symbols — and even a hob-goblin hidden in a place name.
In this walk through the Yorkshire Dales National Park, we explore the history, geology, folklore and language behind what appears to be an ordinary field.
