Soran (Kurdish: سۆران‎) or Diana (دیانا)، (Syriac: ܕܐܝܢܐ‎) is a city in Erbil Governorate، Soran District is one of the largest cities in Kurdistan Region, Iraq with a population of about 198,779 people as Kurdistan Region Government data In 2018.
The city and district of Soran is named after the Sorani Kurds who inhabit the same geographical region. Sorani people are first attested during the rule of the Urartian Empire to have lived in modern Soran district stretching up to the areas around lake Urmia in Iran. Sorani Kurds have given their name to the Sorani Dialect as well, which is one of the three branches of Kurdish language.
Soran city has a very beautiful area Due to it’s mountainside and nature, it has many tourist attractions including: Jondian، Bekhal، Ali Bag Waterfall، Hassan Bag، Sakran
