King Cobra facts: the LONGEST VENOMOUS snake | Animal Fact Files

The king cobra snake is called a cobra, but it's not classified in the "true" cobra genus. It is the fake cobra! They get their royal name because they eat other cobras, so they're the kings of the cobras! King cobras are semi-arboreal meaning they spend some of their time in trees. Unlike "true" cobras, king cobras are diurnal. They are the longest living venomous snakes, but they aren't considered aggressive. Except for when they're defending themselves or guarding a nest! Yes, king cobras actually take care of their eggs!

Scientific Name: Ophiophagus hannah
Range: Indo-Pacific region
Size: up to 18 feet (5.5m) long; 11 feet (3.4m) long on average
Diet: mostly other snakes, can also eat rodents, other reptiles, etc.
Lifespan: 20 years
