The workflow involves running a takeoff report, which requires setting a target surface, such as the original ground, for the run. After configuring the target surface, the takeoff report is generated, producing an Excel report. The report includes several tabs: the utility line summary, which details node-to-node lengths, horizontal and slope lengths, and adjusted pipe lengths; the line takeoff, which provides stationing data, depth zone quantities, utility line costs, and earth and gravel unit costs, although costing information may be missing if not set up in the template; and a summary of all runs. Additionally, the calculations tab shows earthwork data, including cut availability, earth displacement, on-site soils, gravel bedding, compacted area needs, and deficits. The node summary tab displays the total number of nodes, their design heights, and a breakdown of each node's stationing, type, invert elevation, rim elevation, and design height. The report is detailed and serves as a foundational tool for learning and experimenting with new features, with plans to explore more complex shapes, utilities, and runs in future chapters.
