In the world of exotic cars, you've got super cars
and you've got hypercars. Possibly no other manufacturer besides Koenigsegg can compete with the sheer excess and brilliance of a Pagani.
Even if you have several million dollars, chances are you can't
have one, because the waiting list is lengthy and production
numbers are extremely restricted.
Seeing a Pagani on the road is the sort of event which is rare enough
for any car nut to distinctly remember, and that's what makes this crash
so tragic.
This purple Pagani Huayra was based in Texas, and seems to be a completely one off spec - although there are a handful of other similar ones in the world, this was either a one of one, or one of two depending on how precise you
want to get. At the time of the crash, most news articles valued the car at 3.4 million dollars, but that was in 2020. We all know all too well what's happened to the price of anything in high demand over the last few years, and at the low end estimate this is easily a 4 million dollar plus car in todays market - if it were still in one piece, that is.
Right off the bat, I want to make it clear that there were luckily, no fatalities in this crash. The driver was relatively unharmed apart from a fractured arm, but the 1 of 1 Pagani Huayra most certainly wasn't so lucky. This is the story of how a 17 year old destroyed one of the greatest cars ever made.
This is Gage - He's a YouTuber who runs the channel GG Exotics.
Taking a quick look at his videos might make you question your life choices.
How does such a young guy have seemingly endless access to some of the most valuable cars on planet earth, despite barely being old enough
to drive?
To cut a really long story really short, His father co-owns and runs
a successful real estate investment company.
gage doesn't try to hide the fact these cars are owned by his father by the way, so you have to give him a bit of credit for being honest to his audience at least.
Whilst growing up, it quickly became clear to Gage that his
experiences in and around cars like this could gain a lot of attention
on social media, and he decided to capitalise off of the opportunity
he had been given.
So, onto the crash - how did it happen, what happened to gage, and what happened to the Pagani?
Luckily, Gage recounted the collision after it happened, so we have quite a bit
of detail behind exactly what he claims caused the crash. I'll link a video
down below to the original clip, but here's an extract:
Gage and his friend Zack were filming a video, where the aim was
to film Zack's reaction to a hypercar. After some deliberation between the
Bugatti, which gage is more comfortable driving, and the Pagani,
they took a risk and picked the less predictable Pagani.
after pulling out from a junction, gage claims the rear right tyre's low pressure caused the car to lose traction. The steering wheel's jolting caused gage to struggle to keep hold of the wheel, and they hit a curb at quite some speed. They caught some air, and smashed into a tree.
The doors came lose, and Gage got hit hard on his side against
the door.
