The da Vinci Integrated Robotic Surgery Suite at Swedish

Dr. James R. Porter, director of robotic surgery at Swedish Medical Center, talks about the da Vinci Integrated Robotic Surgery Suite, a special operating room at Swedish's First Hill campus in Seattle designed for greater patient safety, efficiency, and enhanced training. Like other robotic ORs, the centerpiece of this suite is the da Vinci robotic system that gives surgeons improved dexterity and vision while reducing the size of incisions required for surgery. The Integrated Robotic Suite has additional features, including a dual console that allows two surgeons to collaborate during a surgery, special viewing features that make it possible for surgeons to see the operating field and a patient's diagnostic images simultaneously, and an adjacent observation room for training other caregivers.
