At 18:01 on Thursday, April 17th, Shakopee Duty Crew was paged for an outside fire along Highway 169, while units were enroute an additional caller stated there were multiple structures on fire at the Renaissance Fair Grounds off of Chestnut Blvd. With that information, Shakopee Engine 1 called for a 2nd Alarm structure fire response, a 3rd Alarm was called for by Engine 1 shortly after. Shakopee Engine 1 and Rescue 1 arrived on scene of a working structure fire with multiple structures involved, they pulled a 2 1/2 attack line in the offensive strategy and took command. Shakopee Chief 2 arrived on scene and updated units that the fire was located in the middle of the event grounds and requested a 3rd tender group. Shakopee Engine 2 arrived and was assigned to spot their apparatus on the North side of the structure to work on exposure protection. Shakopee Chief 2 assumed command, Shakopee Chief 3 took the Alpha Division with Prior Lake Chief 1 as the Embedded Safety. Chaska Battalion 1 was Charlie Division with Eden Prairie Chief 3 as Embedded Safety on Charlie; Jordan Chief 2 was assigned as the Water Officer. Jordan Engine 20 arrived and spotted their apparatus on the Alpha/Delta corner and pulled multiple handlines for fire control. Chanhassen Engine 1 redeployed their apparatus from staging to the East side entrance to relay pump up to Jordan Engine 20. Crews worked extensively on getting the fire knocked down while protecting the exposures with the limited water supply in the first hour of the incident. The bulk of the fire was extinguished within an hour and twenty minutes from the initial call time. Eden Prairie Engine 12 utilized its pump and roll capabilities and flowed foam and water out of the bumper turret to blanket the structure with a layer of foam to help suppress the hot spots. A full 3rd and 4th Alarm were called to get additional units to the scene to assist with fire control and overhaul. A front-end loader was used to assist in pulling the larger debris apart for crews to hit hot spots, crews worked for hours to fully extinguish the fire, and all units cleared the scene at 23:15
Responding agencies were: Shakopee, Jordan, Carver, Chaska, Chanhassen, Prior Lake, Savage, Belle Plaine, Mdewakanton Public Safety, Eden Prairie, and Bloomington Fire Departments along with Allina EMS, and the Scott County Sheriff's Office.
