A fonda is a type of small eatery that usually serves home-style, affordable meals. You can usually get something in the range of $4-7 dollars depending on the fonda and what you are ordering. Sometimes it can be lower or higher.

They are often a casual, no-frills place where locals eat traditional dishes like rice, beans, meat, fish and plantains. They’re popular for lunch and cater to those looking for a filling meal at a low price.

Think of it like a neighborhood diner or a “mom-and-pop” spot that feels like eating at someone’s house. Which is why I love getting my meals from here.
