The #VBPD Youth Services Unit celebrated its one-year anniversary in January 2024! The Youth Services Unit's mission is to bridge the gap between the younger members of our community and police officers to build positive relationships and reduce criminal offenses committed by juveniles. Even though the unit was only formed a year ago, its members have accomplished quite a bit, including:

🔹 Creation of the Blue Knights Chess Club and Badges and Board Games Program
🔹 Formation of the Juvenile Justice Committee
🔹 Active threat and in-service training for School Resource Officers
🔹 Attended dozens of community events
🔹 Partnership with VBCPS public safety programs
🔹 Groundwork and fundraising for Police Athletic League
🔹 Police Cadet Program management and training
🔹 Creation of the Rec Center Mentor Program
🔹 Countless partnerships with community stakeholders and City agencies
🔹 Partnership with Hampton Roads Chess Association
🔹 Hosted chess tournament
🔹 Implementation of Restorative Justice Program
🔹 Partnership with VBFD’s Safety Squad to teach 4th and 5th grade students about various safety topics
🔹 Numerous community presentations
🔹 Educational opportunities for parents and teens
🔹 Creation of the Arrive Alive VB Program
🔹 Creation of a program for teens with an interest in law enforcement
