The long-awaited ceasefire in Gaza between Hamas and Israel is now a reality. The agreement includes three critical phases over several weeks, focusing on hostage and prisoner exchanges, the Israeli military’s withdrawal from Gaza, provision of critical humanitarian aid for millions of displaced Palestinians, and more.

However, while US President Joe Biden announced on Wednesday that both Israel and Hamas have agreed to the deal, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu claimed on Thursday that Hamas had ‘reneged’ on certain parts of the agreement. Netanyahu added that his Security Cabinet would not convene to approve the ceasefire deal until Hamas backs down from the ‘last-minute concessions’. Thus, the final sign-off on the deal, which was meant to go into effect this Sunday, will be further delayed.
