The Salina Liberty spoiled the Nashville Kats Mother’s Day celebration game with a 50-30 victory on Sunday at Municipal Auditorium.

Leading the charge for the Kats (1-2) was wide receiver Braxton Haley, who scored three touchdowns on eight receptions, accumulating 83 yards. Quarterback

Ramone Atkins completed 17 of 28 passes for 176 yards and three touchdowns. Nashville opened the scoring on the initial drive with a nine-yard touchdown pass from Atkins to Haley. The Kats extended their lead on the defensive end, as Pat Clarke had a well-placed kick deep in the end zone limited the Liberty (2-0) to only two yards on the return. On the subsequent play, Ezekiel Rose sacked Liberty quarterback Charles McCallum Jr. in the end zone, granting the hosts a 9-0 advantage.

Haley secured his second touchdown of the game with a 16-yard reception, putting Nashville ahead 16-7 in the opening play of the second quarter. However, Salina found their offensive rhythm and scored 30 unanswered points in an 11-minute span during the second quarter.

The Kats managed to put six points on the board in the third quarter as Atkins ran in a one-yard touchdown, reducing the deficit to 37-23. Salina responded with two quick scores early in the fourth quarter, extending their lead to 50-23. Haley recorded his third touchdown reception with 10:03 left in the fourth quarter, making it 50-30.

Trae Meadows led the defense with eight tackles, while Najee Reams contributed seven tackles.

Nashville totaled 200 yards on 41 plays, while Salina gained 162 yards on 37 plays.
