In this video, we share the 10 interesting facts about Eastern Africa that you probably didn't know. These are unique facts that are specific to the region and the countries in the region. An example is the fact that the Eritrean women population is 3 times more of that of the men in the country. The Eastern Africa region is populary known for great tourist destinations plus other fun places to visit.

Eastern Africa: The 10 Interesting Facts You Must Know

1. Ethiopia has the largest population in the region. The Ethiopian population is close to 115 illion people.
2. Somalia has the longest coastline on the African continent. the coastline has a total distance of 3,333km
3. Tanzania has got the highest peak on the African continent and that is Mountain Kilimanjaro. It's highest peak stands at 5895m above sea level.
4. The Eritrean women population is 3 times that of the men in the country.
5. The Barbary Lion is the largest lion in terms of size in the entire world and it is only found in Ethiopia. The lion is characterized by the dark fur around its neck area.
6. Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania share the largest freshwater lake on the African continent an that is lake Victoria. The lake provides fresh water and fish to the region.
7. Ethiopia is is known as the only country in the region that was never colonized. Thanks to its strong Emperors like King Menelik II that fought off the Italians that had come to colonize the country.
8. Tanzania and Kenya have the Serengeti and Maasai Mara respectively which are home to the largest animal Migration in the world.
9. The longest river(Nile) has its source in the East African region. River Nile is 6,650km long and it stretches from Uganda to Egypt where it pours its waters in the Mediterrenean Sea.
10. Tanzania has the Deepest lake and that's lake Tanganyika. The lake is believed to be 1.47m deep.
