In this edition of Beyond The Headline, anchor Sneha Koshy discusses how the Kerala Migration Survey (KMS) shows an increase in Malayalis migrating abroad, with 22 lakh people leaving in 2023 compared to 21 lakh in 2018. Student migration doubled to 2.5 lakh in 2023, comprising 11.3 percent of total migrants. Ernakulam leads in student migration, followed by Thrissur and Kottayam. Over 80 percent of these students were educated in Kerala, with the UK being the top destination, followed by Canada and Europe.
