Ram pump build/ram pump vs electric pump. How we are capturing water off our spring without an electric or gas pump. Ram pumps have been around for many decades and are popular for two main reasons:
They need no external source of power, the force of moving water gives them the power they need and they are extremely simple . One of our main goals is to be as self sufficient as possible. This includes avoiding electric or gas engines when possible. When we learned about ram pumps, we knew we wanted to build one to fill our water tanks.
After lots of trial and error last year, Stu rebuilt the ram pump. We went from a 3/4 inch to 1 1/4 inch ram pump. The 3/4 inch just did not have the push we needed to get the water to our water tank. We also dropped the ram pump down in elevation to create more pressure. Fingers crossed with the bigger ram pump and bringing it down in elevation, we'll have water!
