Samsung 990 PRO Unboxing Installation Firmware Update

Today we will unbox, install and firmware update the Samsung 990pro nvme Gen4 SSD.
Earlier firmware versions for the 990 and 980 pro had some degradation issues so it's very important you update your m.2 nvme ssd after installation.
The process is simple and quick and should not pose a challenge.
You should use Samsung's Magician software that you can find here https://tinyurl.com/4s4at7m6

As for the physicals installation process. Keep in mind that not all motherboards have the same tool less mounting system that you see here. The standard method is by attaching a screw at the end of the drive. This screw is supposed to be in your motherboard's box.

The 1TB 990pro that you see here does not require active or passive cooling on a open air test bench which is why I did not apply a thermal pad and heatsink. This does not apply to all drivers however, the faster the speeds and greater the sizes the greater the heat generated and the need for cooling. Be it passive or even active in the case of some high capacity high speed Gen 5 nvme drives.

This tutorial applies to all sizes of the 990 Pro but bear in mind that the higher capacity such as 2TB or 4TB are double sides so ideally you should have a thermal pad contact on BOTH sides. The 990 Pro does not get very hot so this is not 100% requires but ideal for the lifespan and optimal operation of the drive. Better cooling means less chances of thermal throttling and a prolonged lifespan for the drive. Theoretically at least.

The product was purchased with my own money and the motherboard used was the Asus Z790 Maximus Apex.
