How Your Flute Angle Affects Sound Production (Flute Posture for Beginners & Up)

Learn how the angles created between your flute, your lips and the plane of your face can affect your resonance and ease of playing. This basic flute posture lesson is appropriate for beginners as well as intermediate/advanced flutists.

The angles at which you hold your flute directly influence how your airstream interacts with your flute. Extreme angles can uncenter your airstream, leading to airy and/or thin sounds. They can also force your lips to work harder in order to get the air to move in the right direction.

Developing a consciousness of how you hold the flute as you practice can help you to achieve greater ease in playing.
