THE BEAUTY OF WATERCOLOR SKIES - ( View Full Screen ) I spend a great deal of time studying & painting sky features in my watercolors. And in this video I've assembled a selection of my watercolors where the sky is a dynamic component of the painting. In some cases... the painting is actually mostly about the sky. Whereas in others... the sky is not so big a portion of the painting... but it is a critical feature. Because I can paint virtually any sky effect I can observe... I am constantly evaluating how much importance to put into the sky. So you will see skies with dynamic cloud & light designs... while others have only a gradation. But even when the sky is just a gradation... it is that elegant simplicity that watercolor allows me to create... which forms the perfect counter-point for the main focus of the painting. The SKY should not over power, or detract the viewer's eye away from the focal point of the painting... unless the focal point "is" the sky! In addition... the sky should not be overlooked as a minor feature that can just be quickly done without care. Skies need careful thought and an artful touch . In any case... painting magical sky effects is one of the most sublime features of transparent watercolor.
