With his raw afro-funk sound, which he called Simigwa-Do, he entered the Ghanaian music scene in 1973, where he became an instant success with his funky, jazzy, soulful approach to highlife. He started in the sixties as part of the Uhuru Dance Band, and learned from Ebo Taylor, with whom he founded The Apagya Show Band in 1974. More than 40 years and 30 albums have passed and Ambolley is a living legend. It's not without reason that he appears on many hip re-issues, from something more obscure like Afrodisiac to labels like Soundway and Analog Africa. In 2019 he performed in Europe for the first time with his own band from Ghana, the Sekondi Band, with whom he had been playing together for over seven years and with whom he had released the album Ketan on Agogo Records in May 2017.
