The Samaria Gorge is home to a diverse range of plant and animal species. Visitors may encounter Cretan wild goats (kri-kri), birds, and various endemic plants. The gorge is also known for its rich botanical diversity.
Is part of the Samaria National Park, which was established in 1962 to protect the unique natural features of the area. The park is only open to visitors during the summer months when weather conditions are more favorable.
