During the second half of May, the Eientei forums held their 8th Dodging Rain Competition (DRC for short), where players are paired up to play a specific survival or scoring category in the Touhou series (i.e., EoSD Normal scoring, MoF Lunatic survival, etc.) and compete against each other to earn points for one of two teams. In my case, I was assigned TD Lunatic survival - I had wanted to get certain survival challenges out of the way for this game, and the DRC seemed like it would be good motivation for it.

Before this, I had tried to get a no-bombs 1cc with Trances, though I kept messing up my routes and thus not clearing. If anything, going for no Trances as well helped me simplify my game in places by not taking so many crazy risks, and I saw steady progress with stuff over time, especially with attacks that used to give me a lot of trouble. This replay isn't my first LNBNT 1cc, only my best one after playing in the DRC (you get more points for fewer deaths, with bombs and Trances also negatively impacting your score). My goal going in was to get a run where I died no more than 3 times (you can die 6 times at most in a no-Trance run), and after a couple attempts that came up painfully short in the late game, I pulled off this run a few days before the deadline, edging out my opponent and scoring over 200 points (out of 280) for my team.

While it may look like I'm close enough to go for a full perfect 1cc, I wanna be clear here, I have no interest in doing that. I don't like TD survival enough to grind this game over and over just to hope I get lucky on Seventeen Articles, because that's unfortunately what it'll come down to. Scoring's a whole different animal, and I plan to improve on some old personal records, but I'm through with survival in this game.
