Chennai, September 25, 2025: Prashanth Hospitals, one of the renowned hospitals in Tamil Nadu, is proud to announce that Dr. Parimuthukumar, the Chief of its Robotic Surgery Centre, has achieved a major milestone in healthcare. He has successfully performed 100 abdominal surgeries using an indigenously developed robotic device. Dr. Parimuthukumar, who is the first surgeon in Chennai to achieve this feat, is setting new standards in surgical precision and patient care across Tamil Nadu. One of his notable achievements is being the first doctor in the country to perform robotic-assisted telesurgery, a remote surgery that involves two hospitals located 340 km apart.
The celebration of this milestone in robotic surgery was graced by Dr. Vishwa Srivastava, Chief Operating Officer – APAC, Ssi Mantra, India’s leading robotics company. Dr. Vishwa felicitated Dr. Parimuthukumar for his surgical expertise and leadership qualities, who has successfully performed 100 abdominal surgeries using indigenously developed robotic devices. He also acknowledged Dr. Parimuthukumar’s pioneering role in India’s first-ever robotic telesurgery between two hospitals.
These 100 surgeries include gallbladder removal, hysterectomy, simple and complex hernia surgeries, and colorectal cancer surgeries. The shift from conventional open surgery to robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgical techniques has brought significant benefits to patients. These include smaller incisions, less post-operative pain, faster recovery and better surgical precision.
