Recorded and edited 1983-1997 by Alan Lamb, born in 1944 in Edinburgh, Scotland, now a Perth-based (Australia) composer and biomedical research scientist. He has originated a body of work based on the resonance of singing wires. "Night Passage" was composed from the recordings on the Faraway wind organ, a half mile of abandoned telegraph wires that were already 15 years old and beginning to decay. "Last Anzac" was distilled from 6 days of recordings on the same wond organ in 1983. "Meditation on spring 8" was recorded live at a festival in the mountains of Kobe, Japan held to celebrate the opening of Synchotron, the electron accelarator. The special SPring 8 wind organ was built and it was heard only by people lucky enough to be there at the time, and later it was destroyed by three typhoons.

Metal wires humming, scraping, and clanging against each other makes for a somewhat terrifying, if surprisingly musical listening experience. (c) Opium Hum
