The Empty Cup

A young boy, Kai, wanted to be the wisest in the village. He visited a great teacher, but his heart was too full of pride. The teacher used a simple lesson with an empty cup to change his life forever.

A mind that boasts it already knows,
Will never see how wisdom grows.

An overflowing cup cannot receive,
Only the empty find truths to believe.

Noise in the heart drowns wisdom’s voice,
Silence is strength, humility the choice.

The tallest trees still bend and sway,
So must we learn to yield each day.

Eyes that seek, but never see,
Are opened wide by humility.

To speak is silver, silence is gold,
Wisdom is earned, not quickly told.

Even the river carves stone at last,
Patience is strength, steady and vast.

The emptier the cup, the more it can hold,
A vessel of clay turns wisdom to gold.

What we let go is what we gain,
Through emptiness, wisdom will remain.

Humble hearts rise, proud minds fall,
Emptiness makes space for all.
