In Amritsar, a shocking case unfolded involving the murder of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, also known as 'Kamal Kaur Bhabhi'. Kanchan was known for her popular Instagram and YouTube channels, where she shared content that some found obscene. She was murdered on June 9, and her body was found in an abandoned car in Bathinda.

The head priest of the Akal Takht, Giani Malkeet Singh, justified Kanchan's killing, stating that "nothing wrong has happened" and that nobody should listen to obscene songs. He believed Kanchan's actions, promoting obscenity in her videos, were wrong and that those who defame the Sikh community by creating false identities and indulging in such acts deserve this treatment.

Two men, Jaspreet Singh and Nimratjit Singh, have been arrested for Kanchan's murder. They told police they killed her for uploading content that hurt the community's sentiments. A key accused, Amritpal Singh Mehron, a self-styled Sikh radical leader, fled to the United Arab Emirates hours after the murder and is now the subject of a lookout circular. Mehron had allegedly threatened other women social media influencers in the past. A video surfaced on social media with Mehron claiming responsibility for Kanchan's murder. Kanchan had a large following online, with 384,000 followers on Instagram and 236,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel, 'Funny Bhabhi TV'.
