Inbreed- Breed from closely related people, animal or plant especially over many generations.

Intercross- To breed two strains having a common ancestry with one another

Heterogeneous stocks- HS populations allow for fine-resolution genetic mapping of a variety of complex traits. HS mice and rats were created from breeding together eight inbreed strains, followed by maintaining the colony in a manner that minimizes in breeding.

SSD- Describes a protocol utilized during the inbreeding of populations of self and cross pollinated species in the development of homozygous lines.
