বায়েজিদ বোস্তামি (ফার্সি ২৬৬) একজন বিখ্যাত ইবানী সূফী সাধক। তিনি আবু ইয়াজিদ বিস্তামি, তায়ফুর আবু ইয়াজিদ আল-বোস্তামি অথবা সুলতান-উল-আরেফিন (৮০৪-৮৭৪ খ্রিষ্টাব্দ) নামেও পরিচিত। তার জন্ম ইরানের বোস্তাম শহরে।

Bostami was a famous Persian Sufi born in Bostam, Iran. Its shrine area as a complex consists of a tomb surrounded by a brick structure along with an old mosque and a large pond. There is no significant historical evidence about Bostami's visit and tomb in this

area. The whole complex is located on a hillock of Nasirabad, considered to be

a holy place and attracts a large number of visitors and pilgrims daily.

The story behind Bostami turtles goes back around 1,200 years to its origin -

what locals believe are embodiments of genies trapped in animal forms.

It was Hazrat Bayezid Bostami, as they say, who caught the genies and turned them to these turtles and they have been there since, at the "city of twelve saints" Chittagong.

Now, these massive-sized turtles at the pond of Bayezid Bostami shrine in West Nasirabad are believed to be boon granters for followers who "they take a shine upon".

Every day, hundreds of followers, irrespective of religion, queue to seek blessings from these turtles - feeding them - hoping to have their wishes granted by "the genie embodiments".

And locals say, these turtles have been living in the shrine for hundreds of years

living solely out of the food brought to them by their followers and visitors.

However, there has been no count of the number of turties living in the shrine's pond since 2004. Back then in the last count, the number came up to be 400.

But now, encroachers and grabbers have established properties around the

pond threatening the living and breeding environment of these turtles.
