Exploring Angel Island by sailboat (ep. 9)

Описание к видео Exploring Angel Island by sailboat (ep. 9)

We sailed from the Clipper Cove anchorage at Treasure Island to overnight at Paradise Cove, a short sail of only 7 miles.

The following day, we circumnavigated Angel Island and dropped the anchor on its eastern flank at Quarry Beach. Due to ship and ferry traffic, the anchorage wasn't comfortable, with wakes periodically rolling us side to side, but we slept well, having been exhausted by the strenuous sail upwind through the Raccoon Strait, which required tacking (zig-zagging upwind) 29 times.

After a rolly night, we took the dinghy to shore to explore the island, which is entirely a state park, full of trails and wildlife, dotted with ruins.

Angel Island's summit, Mt. Livermore, stands 780 ft above sea level and commands an impressive and unequaled 360° view of the San Francisco Bay. Although a ferry services the island, we saw only a handful of people, and passed several hours walking trails without seeing another human.

This video was unintentionally published out of order, as our exploration of Angel Island occurred the day before we sailed out to the Delta.

Our friend Kevin "Gritty" Patterson kindly donated the guitar music heard here.
