For some shots, it was a balloon that had red silicone smeared on it. But when THE BLOB was remade in 1988, the creature got a substantial upgrade. The special effects artists working on the remake were able to make the Blob even more dangerous and frightening. And that helped the film become one of the most popular remakes ever made.
