GWR 2884 No. 3850 returns to steam | Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway | 03/09/2024.

Having last steamed in September 2015 before withdrawal at the end of its boiler ticket, GWR 2884 2-8-0 No. 3850 made its return to service on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway during the Summer of 2024. Fresh from a heavy overhaul undertaken largely at Toddington MPD, and outshopped in as-built GWR Wartime Black, the GWR 2-8-0 commenced a series of 'light engine' trials on the GWSR during the latter half of August. This was followed by a loaded test run on the 31st, being paired up with GWR 28xx No. 2807 for a round trip between Toddington & Cheltenham Race Course. Once all light & loaded tests were completed, 3850 was launched into service on the 3rd of September.
