For centuries, farmers in China followed the same labour intensive traditions to sustain the country's agriculture, the nation's largest and most important industry. Now the landscape is changing. Technology and rising standards of living haved spurred on demands for a greater variety of farm products. Use of hybrid seeds, fertilizers and pesticides have enhanced productivity and revolutionized the economics of farming.
