Описание к видео The Rule of Law Online: Who Targets Me and What Does It Mean For My Rights?

Whilst the Digital Age presents us with cutting-edge opportunities, it also brings the potential for new social problems. How often do we pause to reflect on important questions such as “Which corporations are targeting me with misinformation?“ “How can I avoid harm on public social media platforms?” “What new forms of technology are being developed and will they impact my rights?”

The Rule of Law has never been more important in safeguarding democracy. In the online space, it can also serve a role in protecting young people by clarifying the rules by which the actions of corporations and governments are limited.

On 15 September 2020 the Bingham Centre convened a panel of expert speakers to lead an interactive discussion on these issues.

Chair

Michael Abiodun Olatokun, Bingham Centre Head of Public and Youth Engagement And Lecturer in Law at London South Bank University.

Speakers

Dr Holly Powell-Jones is the Founder of Online Media Law, a social media law and ethics consultancy. She teaches media law-, journalism, broadcasting and Criminology.
Areeq Chowdhury is Chief Executive of WebRoots Democracy. He is active on the social, economic, and political impact of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.
Seyi Akiwowo is the Chief Executive of Glitch. Seyi is active in ending all forms of online abuse (including racism and bullying) and increasing digital citizenship
