On December 12, 2024. Officers from the Middleton Police Department responded to a multi-vehicle accident. When officers arrived on scene, a passenger of one of the vehicles involved stated that the driver of the vehicle which caused the crash, fled on foot. The suspect was described as a younger black male with dreadlocks wearing a gray sweater. The witness also mentioned that there were 3 females in the suspects vehicle but that they stayed on scene. One of the victims was transported to the hospital by EMS.

An officer approached the females and asked who fled from the car. They all initially denied knowing who it was before one of them (Allyson) admitted that it was the driver and her boyfriend (Nicolas). When asked what his last name was, Allyson explained that she did not know. An officer asked if Nicolas was drinking and Allyson stated “No, I don't think so” and mentioned that she didn't know why he ran away. The officer explained that he could smell alcohol but Allyson denied drinking any.

Officers then questioned the driver of one of the involved vehicles about the incident. The male stated that he was stopped at an intersection behind another vehicle when the traffic light turned green. As they proceeded into the intersection, another vehicle ran the red light and crashed into them.

An officer then asked Allyson to step away from the other females. He explained that it was hard to believe that she had been dating Nickolas for 2 months and didn't know his last name. He asked Allyson to call Nickols but she explained that his phone was shut off. While attempting to call him, the officer noted that there was a picture of Nicolas saved in his contact information. The officer took a picture of that information and asked the females if they had a ride home. They explained that one of their fathers was on his way to pick them up. One of the females explained that her leg was injured but denied any medical treatment at the time. The officer explained that he was not going to be giving any citations to the females and allowed them to leave.

Officers were able to identify Nicolas using his photo and contact information. It was discovered that he had a warrant and officers began searching the area for him. Shortly later, an officer observed Nicolas and was able to get him to walk over to his squad car. Nicolas was compliant and did not continue to flee. He explained that he drank a little a few hours prior but was under the legal limit. Due to the fact that he admitted to drinking and was involved in an accident, officers asked if he would go to the police department to do field sobriety tests. Nicolas agreed and was secured in handcuffs before being transported to the Police Department. After completing field sobriety tests, officers determined that he was not impaired. Nicholas was found guilty for Hit and Run-Involving Injury. He was sentenced to 4 months in jail and ordered to pay $3,396 in restitution.
