AI Crash Probe: US Agency Issues Statement, NTSB Chief Says, 'Reports Are Speculative & Premature'

In response to swirling media coverage about the Air India 171 crash, NTSB Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy issued a strong statement cautioning against speculation. Homendy emphasized that the reports currently circulating in the media are both premature and speculative, noting that India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has only just released its preliminary report on the tragic incident.

She further clarified that investigations of such scale and complexity take significant time and urged patience and accuracy in reporting. The NTSB fully supports the AAIB’s public appeal, which was issued on Thursday, and remains committed to assisting the ongoing investigation. Homendy concluded by directing all investigative questions to the AAIB, reinforcing that they are leading the official inquiry into the crash.
