PSAJK Calls On Students To Be Aware, Asks Police, Crime Branch To Investigate Cases

Srinagar, Jun 29 : Private Schools Association of Jammu and Kashmir (PSAJK) today revealed in a press conference how life and career of hundreds of students from Kashmir over the last few years has been destroyed by outside colleges who cancel their admissions despite taking hefty fee.
The Association termed it as brewing up of a major crisis in education sector in which some local consultants and outside colleges are actively involved. The Associations said that numbers of students who qualify 10+2 from their schools and go for outside admission have been cheated.
“What happens that a colleges puts up an advertisement or through local consultant counsels a student’s that a particular A, B or C college is great and makes the student to take admission in it,” said Var. “To make more money the college usually takes admissions beyond its intake capacity. And at the time of examinations the colleges tells the students that their examination form was rejected or couldn’t be filled or some other reason, so your admission stands cancelled. At times they give partial fee back and send the student back.”
The young student who is usually alien of the outside working comes back. “His career and life is destroyed. When asks the consultant he says he can’t help as college is responsible. The consultants gets away with his commission money and colleges keeps some or whole admission fee,” said Var.
The Association said that such cases are on rise as there is no check on consultants and colleges marketing in Kashmir. “They use the innocence and lack of awareness among students and their parents to their advantage. They simply exploit them,” said Var. “Currently there are hundreds of such cases in Kashmir.”
Such cheating is even rampant among colleges outside the country. “Last year dozens of students who had received admission in MBBS courses in Bangladesh, Kyrgystand, China and other countries were cancelled. The students had to face huge difficulties by coming back,” said Var. “They lost lakhs of rupees as their admission turned out to be fake or the college turned out to be not more than a shed. Sometimes as the student is a girl, the family or the student herself is reserved to reveal the cheating.”
The Association called on the government, Crime Branch and police to to take action against such people on urgent basis.
The aim of the press conference is to make people aware of the huge issue and risks involved at the start of the admission season. “These days people are busy getting admission for their wards in professional and non-professional courses outside the state. They should be more careful and conduct research themselves before selecting a college or a consultant for admissions,” said Var.
The Association also produced five candidates who were cheated by a college. The students include Waqas Javid and Shahid Majid of Pampore, Mohsin Basharat of Soura, Malik Idrees Masood of Handwara and Yawar Abbas of Pulwama. They revealed before the press how they were cheated.
The students after getting admission in August 2016 and even appearing in College Semester Examination in Dec.16 and June 17 received refusal of registration from University of Kurukshetra.
