HOW YOU CAN GET THERE:
The Gorsa Bridge is located about 15 km off the E6 highway, near the village of Birtavarre. After leaving the E6, follow the road up the valley. The first 8 km is paved, but the road transitions to gravel after that. Be cautious on the gravel section as it can be rough, and sheep often wander near the road. About 3 km down the gravel path, you’ll come across a large parking area on the right (Ankerlia), complete with restrooms and an information board.
From here, you can park and hike the rest of the way to the Gorsa Bridge.
If you'd prefer a shorter walk, you can continue driving along the winding gravel road. After crossing a narrow wooden bridge and navigating a few curves, you'll find a smaller parking area on the left. From this spot, it's just a gentle 1.8 km walk to the bridge. Alternatively, you can drive further toward Sabethjoka, but note that the road is narrow and winding, so proceed at your own risk.
From Sabethjoka, it's a 2.5 km walk down to the Gorsa Bridge.
Previously, it was possible to take a scenic route through the old Ankerlia mining area, but a major flood in 2022 washed away the bridge, making this route inaccessible.
THE BEST TIME TO DO THE HIKE:
The Gorsa Bridge is typically accessible by foot during the summer and early autumn. Snow usually melts by May, making June a great time for hiking in the area. Winter typically begins in October, making the hike much more difficult.
In the winter months, the bridge can still be reached via skis or snowshoes. However, there are no marked trails, and parts of the route are exposed, so only experienced winter hikers or skiers should attempt this. The gravel road is not plowed in winter, so skiing or snowshoeing will need to start from where the snow plows stop further down the valley.
IN CASE YOU WANNA DO THE BUNGEE JUMP:
From June 15 to September 30, adventurous visitors can bungee jump off the Gorsa Bridge. With a 153-meter plunge over the dramatic Kåfjorddalen gorge, this is an adrenaline-fueled experience like no other. Imagine free-falling towards a cascading waterfall inside the narrow canyon—it's an unforgettable rush! Advance booking is required, so make sure to secure your spot with Lyngenfjord Bungee.
