Many of you know that I am the founder of VirtualFlight.Online - a website, discord server and facebook group where we organise weekly group flights for the online community to take part in.

What you might not know is an intrepid band of us have been putting together the jigsaw pieces required to offer air traffic control services from time to time. We’re still working out the how and when of it all, but I think it’s going to be fun.

At the moment, we’re thinking we will hold specific sessions where participants can practice communicating on UNICOM as they would at a real airfield. When ATC staff are available the Tower will become available for people to call and interact with.

It should serve as a tremendous “on-ramp” for those that have never used online services such as VATSIM or IVAO - and give people a relaxed, friendly atmosphere in which to learn.

We don’t have any specific dates yet - but when we do, the first sessions will be accompanied by all manner of preparatory materials - very probably including airfield charts, and a beginner’s guide to radio telephony (we’re working on it right now - see below).
