The Supreme Court has issued a modified interim order concerning stray dogs, bringing relief to animal lovers. The top court directed that dogs picked up must be sterilized, immunized, and then released back into the areas from where they were taken. An exception applies to aggressive or rabid dogs, which will be housed in separate shelters. The court has also prohibited the feeding of stray dogs in public places, mandating that it can only be done in designated zones to be identified by municipal authorities. In a significant move, the court has expanded the scope of the case to have a pan-India approach. An activist and intervener in the case, Gauri Mulekhi, said, "the court today has upheld the rule of law, has basically said that scientifically, the dogs have to be picked up, neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and then released back in the same place where they were picked up from unless they are biting dogs or if they're showing symptoms of rabies."
